Chapters 72 and 73

Update : as you noticed I got stuck for a couple of weeks. I expect to post more stuff in the following week.

It took me a lot of efforts but I managed to finish the main story !

Three chapters (45, 46 and 71) are still to be written, they focus on Norman and Jessica.

All in all there are 81 chapters and an epilogue (a 82th chapter in terms of number of pages). I managed to end the book exactly as I intended to.

I will publish two chapters per week, only in .odt and .pdf format. At a later time, in late October or in November, I will publish the book, renamed "Glasses, Pulleys and Bread" in three large files :
1- Glasses : Erich's departure from Chicago
2- Pulleys : Peacetime in Joyeux-Tiburon (levees etc.)
3- Bread : From the CCC crisis on.

Menières's disease

Okay, so here is the situation, I lost 40 db of hearing since february, and the specialist is pretty confident it's Menières disease.

As an interesting sidenote, this occurs in psychological profiles that match those of Erich quite closely, and it appears at age 40.

One effect of this disease is that I have a hard time to concentrate, let alone follow projects through. For the moment I can manage routine tasks, but I can't really go beyond that, and this means that this complex novel is on hold for an unknown amount of time.

It's sad because I have the next steps still pretty much clear in my head, I hope I won't get out touch should I resume this work.

We'll see this autmun how things evolve.

Chapter 70

UPDATE on May the 31st 2015 : it has been an extremely busy year for me, with chronic overtime at work and general exhaustion. I had health problems linked with that in February that still linger on. I sincerely long to finish that project as intended. This would take several months, starting this summer if everything works fine.



New Year update : I am overwhelmed at work, and didn't progress a bit. One should look forward to May, at best, for any progress.

UPDATE : no new posts until the middle of November.

The relocation north is under way, and Erich tries hard to be up to the task.

Current writing status : Chapter 71 is underway, chapters 45 and 46 are still not written.

Okay, so I'm back for some more chapters. I will post one chapter per week, because things have still to be adjusted. On the Louisiana side of the novel, things will be evolving to a post-crisis situation from the chapter 70, and so the time frame changes gradually into a protracted epilogue.

After having arrived to the chapter 74, I'm going to switch back to the Norman and Jessica story, first by finishing the chapters 45 and 46, then... Well it's been said I'm spoiling too much of the novel in these posts.



Things continue to evolve for me, I have to work longer hours at my job, but I try to free up enough time to finish the novel. There are ideas for other novels, but I will first finish this one.

Chapters 66 and part of chapter 67

With Kathryn evacuated, Erich tries to save as much as possible from the storm. Like everybody else after the storm, they will have to evacuate northwards in order to survive.


Current writing status : Chapter 67 is still underway, chapters 45 and 46 are still not written.

What has been written in chapter 67 really is a work in progress, a number of things are not really settled. Usually I published the chapters when a couple of other chapters had been written, in order to fix a number of elements.


As expected, I am not able to resume writing at the moment. I'm already glad to be able to sleep properly since last week (as you can guess, I'm the same kind of on/off workoholic as Erich...)

I except to be able to resume writing in July, or more probably in October.

Mackenzie describes the brutal events in town during "Grinding Night". Erich and his people organise the place as best as they can, keeping in mind they're now being observed.


Current writing status : Chapter 67 is still underway.


As anticipated, there will be no new window of opportunity for me to continue writing in the upcoming months. Next week-end I'll post the remainder of what has been written so far.
